The Taint of Evil Part 2: Cultural Echoes and Biblical Concepts

Welcome back to our episode on tainted land. Read Part One if you missed it. Otherwise we're going to jump right back into the weird and the strange from a Biblical point of view.

“ ‘Do not pollute the land where you are. Bloodshed pollutes the land, and atonement cannot be made     for the land on which blood has been shed, except by the blood of the one who shed it.

Do not defile the land where you live and where I dwell, for I, the LORD, dwell among the             Israelites.’ ” Numbers 35:33-34

This concept pops up in the Bible far more often than your basic churchian would guess. Blood spilt, especially innocent blood, seems to taint the land in some way that God can perceive. As the verse above shows God has an aversion for land polluted by spilt blood. One might be tempted to say that animal blood spilt doesn’t apply considering the amount of blood sacrifices held in the Temple. But if we look at the above verse we can see that not all spilt blood taints the land, and in fact the only sure fire way to cleanse the land is to spill the blood of the original murderer.

This distinction means we could see sacrifices committed in unholy ceremonies or perhaps even excessive blood spilt of even animals could have an effect. In Part One I mentioned the Bobby Mackey's Music World haunting. An interesting tidbit in that story marks the fact the sight was originally a slaughterhouse, and the first murderers chose that spot to commit their satanic ritual murder, decapitating a school teacher and tossing her head down a well in the basement, specifically because of all the blood that had been spilt on the property already.

Now, I’m no vegan. I’m not suggesting that we aren’t to eat meat or kill animals for food or product. What I’m suggesting is that when we do so in excess, thus breaking God’s commands for us to steward over the creation, that act and blood could pollute the land spiritually. Just like with sacrifices this would be nowhere near the amount of tainting a human murder would bring to said plot, just like how animal sacrifice wasn’t enough to completely erase our sins.

Notice that there was no haunting at the slaughterhouse before the Satanic murder was committed. Still, one doesn’t have to know much about the occult to know that they search out areas with “power” or strong taint in this case to boost their own spells and rituals. More heinous the sin committed on the land the more likely spirits attached to those sins will stick. Demons feed on rebellion to God in all its forms, and this blood pollution smells like something the cockroach of the spirit realm would be attracted to.

So was that it? Was there no way to cleanse a land without finding the murders and spilling their blood on the same property, appeasing the earth itself as it swallows murderer and victim’s blood? Not necessarily.

Then all the elders of the town nearest the body shall wash their hands over the heifer whose neck         was broken in the valley, and they shall declare: “Our hands did not shed this blood, nor did our             eyes see it done. Accept this atonement for your people Israel, whom you have redeemed, LORD,         and do not hold your people guilty of the blood of an innocent person.” Then the bloodshed will be         atoned for, and you will have purged from yourselves the guilt of shedding innocent blood, since            you have done what is right in the eyes of the LORD. Deuteronomy 21: 6-9

Like many sins in the Bible before Jesus Christ’s victory on the cross, an animal sacrifice could be used to absolve guilt of spilt innocent blood. We could see how important unsolved murder and injustice was in God’s eyes as well since just being in proximity to the innocent blood could taint your town and receive the Almighty’s wrath. Makes me think about the nightmare of Hollywood, and just how much work is ahead of my fellow Californians and I to cleanse our land of the stench. Good thing we don’t need cows anymore to get the job done. We may find that we need all the cows we can find to keep the food on the table so I’m doubly grateful for the Lord’s mercy, and some of you might have guessed my Savior's Victory over death.

Think about it. If Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross nullifies the need for animal ritual blood spilling then surely cleansing land requires more prayer than cow blood to achieve cleansing. Do I feel like you might want to consider executing the murderer at the scene of the crime? Yes, but I’d pray over the spot all the harder. You might consider making a monastery or whatever equivalent your denomination or lack of denomination has so prayer is always held on the spot by good brothers and sisters in Christ.

See now we’re delving into the fun bit. What you can do if you run into a haunting, or someone who is to help be rid of the taint on their property. Tomorrow we’ll be delving nice and deep into Who Owns Your Land in the spiritual sense. So make sure you come back for the conclusion of the matter this Saturday.
